(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 23, 2025 – Two-time and defending MMW Industrial Supply Midwest Sprint Car Association champion Ben Schmidt of Plymouth raced with a clear mission in mind during the MSA’s first trip of the 2025 season to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Entering the 17th program of the 2025 MSA campaign, second in the series point standings with half a dozen races remaining, Schmidt kept a laser focus on his championship aspirations by notching his third A-main victory of the season in impressive fashion.
MSA point leader Kevin Karnitz of West Bend jumped into the lead of the 25-lap main event from the pole with outside front row starter Katelyn Krebsbach of Johnsburg in tow.
On lap 3, the fourth starting Schmidt, now in his 26th season of competition, moved past Krebsbach to assume second. Five laps later, the lone stoppage of the race occurred when Tyler Davis of Franklin went on a series of flips in turn one to draw a red flag.
The restart saw Schmidt pull off what proved to be the winning move as he slid past the high-riding Karnitz to take over the top spot. From there, Schmidt had smooth sailing as he built up a full straightaway lead while weaving his way through slower traffic in the closing stages of the race.
Schmidt went on to post his third win of the 2025 MSA season and his 49th career series triumph.
Karnitz placed second, Krebsbach equaled her career-best A-main finish with a third place showing, Brandon Berth of Cascade charged up 10 spots to place fourth after starting 14th and Anthony Knierim of Franksville completed the top five.
“I always like coming down here to race,” Schmidt said in victory lane. “I think I’m getting the hang of this place. I had a couple of runner-ups until winning one a couple years ago. Coming back to do it again is great for the whole team that stands behind me. I got the lead and then lost it at Plymouth last night. I wasn’t going to let that happen again tonight.”
Karnitz set fast qualifier honors with a lap of 13.540 seconds around the venerable three-eighths-mile semi-banked clay oval.
Heat race victories went to Chris Larson of Franksville, Katelyn Krebsbach and Ben Schmidt.
The event drew 17 MSA 360 Sprint Cars.
The next event for the MMW Industrial Supply MSA Sprint Car Series is at The Plymouth Dirt Track during the Sheboygan County Fair in Plymouth, Wis., on Friday, Aug. 29.
One night later, the MSA competitors will cap off a doubleheader weekend with an appearance at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, Aug. 30.
