Does the feel of horsepower and smell of methanol excite you? Have you ever wished you could drive a sprint car, but thought the expense too great?
Come race with the Midwest Sprintcar Association!
The rules governing construction of a MSA sprintcar are an excellent balance between maximum performance for minimum cost. Start with any popular sprintcar chassis (1.5 dia. x .095 wall min.), front axle, steering gear, rear-end and body. For a power-plant, use a stock Chevy 350 cu.in. or Ford 351 cu.in. cast iron block (360 cu.in.
maximum), 12 to 1 compression (max.) pistons, no roller cam, solid lifter, wet
sump oil pump, and specific high horsepower cast iron heads with no modification
from stock. Use steel rims (only) for maximum durability with specific brand and
compound of tire. No titanium anywhere on the car, no driver controlled wing
slider. Make sure the car weighs at least 1625 pounds (with the driver). Add standard sprintcar top wing, nose wing, brake system, etc. Of course proper driving apparel is also required.
The above description is excerpted from the MSA rule book, but is in NO WAY comprehensive! Rule books are available at any MSA race, just ask one of our pit stewards at any event.
Good quality used sprintcar parts are frequently available, competitive entry level cars can be built for as little as $9,000. A good sponsor always helps. For those who would like to try a race or two in a sprintcar, rentable sprintcars may be available for a reasonable price, just ask one of our pit stewards.
A current 2007/Version 9 copy of our Rule Book is now available for
